I’m going to let you know what it is I look for in a musician I’m considering hiring inside Secondlife. If you’re new to virtual venue ownership, or an artist wondering why gigs are hard to land, this might help. It’s no secret that good talent is easy to find in world. When I scout new talent, it’s a planned weekend out club hopping. Although, it takes more than a weekend to hear all the great musicians, we do what we can to get around. Me and CapnJac have a 3 song rule. After 3, we move onto the next act. Or, at least we try. We get as many gigs in per hour as we can, sticking to, or staying close… Read more »

Permission and Respect
February 23rd, 2012
Mae UPDATE; 2/27/2012 We will not be responding to the comments by Robert69 Little. We still have no idea why he attacked us to begin with. It all started with him posting on a review here. Once I responded, he proceeded to this page to begin his temper-tantrum. He calls himself a professional, yet displays quite the opposite. He also, as you will see, openly admits that he will infringe on privacy and policy of not only our venue, but anyone else as well. MJ’s Blues and Dance Club has always made it clear that you MUST obtain permission from both the performer and MJ’s Blues before any sort of recording, other than by the performers themselves. It’s a little thing called… Read more »
Is this a “Tip Only” venue?
February 4th, 2012
Mae I have to start off by saying, “what”? Is MJ’s Blues a Tip Only venue. What is a tip only venue. I haven’t done my research on this. There’s enough to do with getting MJ’s Blues back into circulation without worrying about having to answer such a ridiculous question.
At MJ’s Blues, you play, we pay…cut and dry. And to let you in on another thing, we don’t even have a house tip jar. We at MJ’s Blues have always supported SL music and SL Independent musicians. And many of them have been there for us, unconditionally.
Musicians and DJs are not there to be taken advantage of. We were the only venue who paid performers to play at our benefits and fund raisers, now many others have followed our lead. We may have asked for a discount, and being SL musicians are the most generous people we’ve met, 99% of them waive their fee for such an event. Shame on you venue owners who run their venues as a tips only.
I was pretty shocked when asked by an SL musician if we were such a venue. It also explains to me why many musicians have stopped performing in SL. There is no one better than us at MJ’s Blues who know what the costs are to run a live music venue. Hosting live concerts nearly every night in the past, some nights 2 or more concerts, we know all to well what it takes to keep a venue active.
MJ’s Blues and Dance Club is going live again. Starting this month we have 4, and adding more, concerts lined up. We wont be able to go full bore like in the past, however we’re here to support SL Independent musicians and DJs and hope more and more venues will follow suite.
I’m not done with this topic. I’m going to do my research and post back here on my findings.
